What do I need to know to do a magic trick? You need to know two things: cause and effect. The effect is what the audience sees - what you want them to see. The cause is what you did to make it happen. The audience, if you did it right, doesn't see the cause. You need to master both!

Does magic require a lot of practice? Of course, the old saying "practice makes perfect" applies. Practice, above all else, is how to learn magic tricks. Some tricks don't require that much practice to get started. You can master more complicated magic tricks, how to do sleight of hand for example, by practicing for a few minutes a day for a month. But, you can get started with magic in just 10-15 minutes.

Knowing these four fundamentals to magic tricks is a great start to understanding the world of magic.

Magic is an art; it can be performed in many ways; a trick has cause and effect; and, although it requires at least some practice, you can start performing very quickly.
